Aluminum has been commercially produced for approximately 150 years, and, in this short period, its industry has expanded and is now present in six demographic regions.

Africa, North America, Latin America, Europe and Oceania. In total, the countries that produced, 34 million ton of primary aluminum in 2006, amount to 46, as per the World Metal Statistics. Brazil is the sixth largest primary aluminum producer, preceded by China, Russia, Canada, United States and Australia.

The importance of the Brazilian industry in the world scenario is shown by its share of the global market. Brazil, besides owning the fifth largest bauxite deposit in the planet, is the fourth largest alumina producer and ranks fifth in exports of primary aluminum/alloys. The figures show: Brazil has the vocation to produce aluminum.

In the domestic market, most of the aluminum and its products are used in the packaging and transport segments. Next, come the segments of electricity, civil construction, consumer goods, machinery and equipment and others. The production of semi-manufactured products in Brazil is concentrated in the southeast region. Minas Gerais, São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro house companies that produce sheet, foil, extruded products and cable. The industry is also present in the states of Pará, Maranhão, Ceará, Pernambuco, Bahia, Mato Grosso, Paraná, Santa Catarina and Rio Grande do Sul which also have production units.
